Airline and Airport Policy Studies

Airport Competition Study
Responsible for a major component of a study into the extent of competition and state aid within the European airport sector on behalf of the European Commission (DG TREN). The study, which was carried out in conjunction with the Cranfield University, was designed to provide policy guidelines for assessing individual state aid cases evaluated by the Commission. Specific responsibility for in-country reports for Belgium, Greece and Switzerland.

Air France Restructuring Study
Retained by the European Commission (DG VII) to review a report by the French Government proposed at the end of the four year restructuring period during which Air France had received FF20 billion in aid from the French Government. The study involved a full audit of progress made during the period and the degree to which Air France had conformed to the conditions and requirements of the European Commission

Iberia Airways Restructuring Study
An investigation and report for the European Commission on Iberia’s compliance with the Commission’s stipulations underpinning their decision to approve a capital injection of $570M. Fleet management, staff reduction matters and divestment of Latin American subsidiaries were examined. In addition operating financial performance was analysed and compared to the Commission’s targets.

Olympic Airways Investigation
On behalf of the European Commission, ASA reviewed the effectiveness of the airline's management information systems, and their adequacy to permit implementation and monitoring of the restructuring programme.
