by Peter Forbes on March 31, 2022 1 comment

Alan Stratford and Associates has been commissioned by South Staffordshire District Council to carry out a study on the future business viability of Wolverhampton Halfpenny Green Airport (WHGA). WHGA is the only multi-runway airport in the West Midlands specifically catering for the general aviation market. The study is being undertaken in the context of a planning application for a residential development at the site together with improvements to the airport’s infrastructure and facilities.

I did a similar study years ago when a property developer bought the site. They found that the local transportation and utility networks were not up to scratch. We looked at closing one runway and developing the north part of the airport for hangar homes and some other houses whilst retaining the primary business. The rest of the plan was to upgrade/add hangarage to attract business and importantly develop a world class café as pilots will fly for miles for a good cuppa and meal.
